Deserts of Africa – June 2012

20 Jun

First full day in the villages …

We had a good night sleep though it was much too short. In the desert it starts getting light around 5 a.m. The group started the day in Bible study. Our guide had us climb the mountain near us for devotions. Who knew that there would be mountains in the desert? This brought to mind Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”

Later we had a “leisurely” camel ride to the villages. We were able to spend several hours there. The family who provided lunch was so gracious. We did not have a female translator so the ladies mainly communicated through improvised sign language. Later our guide was able to join us. He translated while several of the team members shared their testimony with two ladies. They were open and friendly though not understanding. Hopefully other teams will be able to visit and share God’s love with these villages.
